This research trip included pictures taken of Civil Action 327 at the National Archive files in Morrow, GA, along with pictures taken of the Spring Creek and Galilee Cemeteries. Archive pictures include the Martin Chapel and Byrd Cemeteries before relocation, and pictures of the Spring Creek and Galilee Cemeteries after relocation of the graves. Note the white cross markers on the Martin Chapel and Byrd Cemeteries, that must have been placed at the same time. COE currently unwilling to technically confirm the graves were actually moved from the Lake Seminole Reservoir Martin Chapel and Byrd cemeteries (other than the attached paperwork, which takes over 13k acres of land, with the Martin and Byrd families ‘unknown’, for disbursement purposes).
All 31 of the Martin & Byrd graves were marked “unknown”. In 1960’s my grandfather said his grandmother told him to ‘never tell them you are Indian, or they will make you walk all the way to Oklahoma”, so in the 1950’s I don’t believe my Martin or Byrd ancestors would have spoken up that the Indian cemeteries were their ancestors. It was another way of extermination..
